Have our Sydney Cycleway’s stood the test of time?

As people rediscover the simple pleasures of dusting off their bicycle to either explore their neighbourhood or commence a new way to commute to work, here we highlight some of our previous projects and how they are withstanding the test of design, accommodating the recent surge in cycling patronage.


Completed in 2011, this multi-award winning cycleway is one of the first large scale separated urban cycleways in Sydney running between Woolloomooloo in the north and Waterloo to the south. The cycleway successfully responded to different urban conditions along the route which included traffic calming, access and parking and whilst enhancing the greening of the street as one of Sydney’s most important civic green boulevards. 

“Despite the rigorous consideration of technical issues in the design, the final result is refreshingly low key. Not only is the facility attracting new people to bike riding, but through careful consideration of Bourke’s Street built and landscape heritage, the facility provides a new appreciation of one of the great streets in Sydney’s inner east.”

The George Street Cycleway, completed in 2013, provides a connection between Green Square – Redfern through to the Sydney CBD, traversing through residential and the urban precincts, including the established Redfern Street urban precinct, and the developing urban areas of Waterloo. The cycleway has achieved its goal primary project goal of improved urban connectivity along George Street, as well as enabling a significant greening of the street.

Our work in the design and planning of cycleways continues over recent years. We are currently working on the Centennial Park to South Coogee Cycleway with Randwick City Council; the West Street Cycleway Active Transport and Placemaking Plan with North Sydney Council; and for recreation cycling, the junction of the Bay Run and GreenWay connection with the Inner West Council.
