RIO 2016 OLYMPIC Masterplan
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
A Design Competition for the Rio 2016 Olympics Masterplan, our entry incorporated three modes of operation, games mode, transition mode and legacy mode. Early delivery of several facilities allowed the development of an Olympic Training Centre and establishment of key public open spaces prior to 2016. During Games Mode, permanent facilities would be joined by several temporary stadiums and large public open spaces. Back of house facilities were concentrated in the area designated for future residential development.
Transition Mode triggered the establishment of waterfront public parkland and all north-south streets, providing structure to the residential public domain. Infill development established a diverse array of residential housing types
The design focused on a lasting legacy for Rio de Janeiro through the integration of residential, commercial, recreation and state of the art sporting facilities, within a high quality urban fabric.
