RAS SHOWGROUNDS HALLS 5 & 6
SYDNEY OLYMPIC PARK, NSW
The vision was to create a building of significant architectural merit to complement the surrounding built context, and add to the architectural value of the precinct. The design embraces the principles of the masterplan and delivers an urban design solution that is robust and amenable. The new pavilion completes the ‘family’ of curved roofed buildings for this precinct. The form is expressed in a curved roof with raised ‘environmental roof wings’. These ‘gum leaf’ like forms drape over the building’s volume. They make sustainability contributions to the design and help to break and modulate the scale and mass of the pavilion. The new pavilion has a 72 metre clear span making it ideal for large scale events such as exhibitions, trade shows, gala dinners, photo shoots, concerts, product launches and many more events.
