Headspace is the National Youth Mental Health Foundation providing early intervention mental health services to 12-25 year olds, along with assistance in promoting young peoples’ wellbeing. This covers four core areas: mental health, physical health, work and study support and alcohol and other drug services.
GroupGSA was commissioned to design the new Headspace facility in Caboolture, including fitout and refurbishment of the existing building to comply with NCC & DDA requirements.
The Facility to includes: reception, waiting area, administration, managers offices, Group ‘Huddle’ Room, Counselling Rooms, GP Treatment Rooms, Staff Breakout room and kitchen, staff workspace, utility area, DDA/ambulant WC, upgrade of stairs and entrance, external signage.
Centres are built and designed with input from young people so they don’t have the same look or feel as other clinical services. The interior environment at Caboolture is modern with an urban industrial edgy feel through the use of a recycled timbers and materials.
The critical success factors for the project were to create a welcoming and non-intimidating interior space environment; acoustic separation for consulting and treatment rooms was paramount to manage privacy; the fitout to be cost effective whilst meeting functional requirements; equitable access throughout the facility and a safe and secure environment for staff and young people.
