The Crescent Parramatta
The Crescent is an important natural and cultural feature in Parramatta Park. The high ridge of the Crescent provides views down to the Parramatta River and into the park area beneath which is used for recreation area during the day and as a park amphitheatre event space.
The stair and pathway connections leading to the Crescent, navigate the steeply sloping wooded landform. The series of seven steel frame and sandstone stair cases provide a robust and elegant set of connections linking the upper and lower park areas. They are designed to sit ‘quietly’ in the landscape setting, respecting the adjacent memorials and important heritage items and allowing continuity of the woodland canopy. During events, integrated lighting can be turned on to highlight pathway access and provident an ambient background setting to the event space.
