What place have you visited that inspired you?

I went to Kyoto about 3 years ago. It is an amazing city: so busy and crowded yet you can turn a corner and discover a tiny quiet bar or teahouse. The hillside gardens that surround the city are incredibly refined and peaceful, and reflect a remarkable dedication to craftsmanship. I look at my photos constantly.

What is your favourite designed space in Sydney?

The parks of Iloura Reserve and Yurulbin Park in Balmain. These were designed and built in the 1970s by landscape architect Bruce Mackenzie. They are iconic Sydney harbourside parks.

What is your favourite natural landscape?

The Grand Canyon track near Blackheath. The walk takes you through shaded fern gullies and sublime moments overlooking the Grose Valley.

Something about you that people don’t know?

I dabble in guerilla gardening. It is interesting what you can get away with when you just go ahead and do it.
